Obtain Club Handicap 54 and the NGF Rules Exam
To play on an 18-hole golf course in the Netherlands, you must have Club Handicap 54 (formerly the Golf Proficiency Certificate). You obtain Club Handicap 54 by earning an NGF Golf Course Permission, followed by completing the NGF Golf Rules Exam. On July 9, 2024, the NGF took further steps in the modernization of the golf rules exam. This next step means that all new golfers can take the golf rules exam in the GOLF.NL app. The requirement that a beginner must already be a member of a club has been waived, and therefore approval from a golf club is no longer required. Another step in the modernization is that, since July 9, 2024, it is permitted to consult rule publications during the rules exam. With these further steps, the NGF aims to promote the rejuvenation of the sport, offer digital convenience to all enthusiastic new golfers, and remove any potential barriers.If a new golfer who is not yet a member of a golf club passes the rules exam via the GOLF.NL app, they will receive a certificate of completion in the app. For a new golfer who is already affiliated with a golf club, the club will be notified directly. Therefore, the intervention of the Rules and Handicap Committee is no longer necessary.
In light of these innovations, the BG & CC Rules and Handicap Committee has decided to end the traditional method of examination at our club (written, classroom-based). The planned exams for the remainder of 2024 are therefore canceled.
A decision regarding the continuation of the golf rules lessons in their current or an adapted form is yet to be made.
